Daydream is a Virtual Reality head-mounted display developed by Google for Google VR. To use Daydream View, users need to mount a Daydream certififed ready Smartphone inside it. The smartphone serves not only as Gear VR's screen but also as its computer. Unlike other mobile HMDs, Gear VR does not solely rely on the smartphone's IMUs for tracking. It has additional IMUs and Oculus' rotational tracking technology built within, allowing for fast and accurate tracking of the user's head movements. While impressive, the current Gear VR does not possess positional tracking.
Announced during Google I/O 2016, Samsung Gear VR was released in November 20, 2015 for $79. Users who pre-order Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will receive the HMD for free.

The device works with Daydream certified Ready phones, connects and uses NFC to detect your phone is present wirelessly (no connectors) and uses auto alignment to allow quick and seamless entry and exit from VR – informed by capacitive pads on the View headset, where they touch the screen, tells the phone how to orient the image.
The padded faceplate interface itself is detachable, and is said to be breathable and hand-washable, possibly making way for the possibility of multiple inserts.
