Introduction

OrbusVR is considered to be the first of its kind – a fully realised fantasy MMORPG, completely immersed inside the world of VR. Just like your typical online MMO, there’s hundreds of quests for the player to conquer; a massive open-world to explore as you see fit, along with plenty of characters, lore, story, dungeons, and much more!

As of right now, OrbusVR is in an alpha state of development, so there are bound to be bugs aplenty in the game, especially when major areas of the game are newly implemented. Despite this, the developers are vigilant about dealing with bugs and will remain so for the lifespan of the game, regardless of how long it takes to get the game to a perfect standard. However, do be aware that when the developers leave the alpha state of the game and release the game officially, all progress will be wiped, so all players get to start over again with a clean slate.

Combat

As with any MMORPG in the world, one of the most important parts of the game is the combat that you’ll be spending all of your time doing; providing the game manages to hook you in enough. With the game being in a first person perspective, the combat takes the same sort of stance, depending on which class you’re speccing: be it archer, warrior, or even mage.

When you play as a warrior, you’re tasked with swinging your sword around, as it follows the VR controllers equipped in either of your hands. Either that or you can enjoy swinging around your spellcasting wand and fill the screen with particle effects. You can also equip a bow and arrow and take your time with each and every single pull back of the bow, something that does feel rather satisfying at the time being, but will only manage to be improved more and more as development continues.

Working Together

Similar to other MMO’s, OrbusVR is a game that works best with friends or with a group. You will quickly come to realise that if you’re playing the game completely solo, you’re going to struggle to some degree with the content. Enemies in this game are particularly troubling to a players health bar, even more so when you encounter them in a set of dungeons. To save yourself the hassle, I would recommend bringing a few friends along with you to make sure that you have the highest probability of completely destroying the opposition.

If I couldn’t reiterate this enough, when you wander into a dungeon, take some backup with you to save you from keeping on your toes. Mobs in dungeons are even more dangerous than any others, so that little extra level of backup to save your behind is something everyone is going to want; rather than wiping every 2 minutes.

Relax

Just because it’s an MMORPG, doesn’t mean you can’t go and enjoy a fair few minutes to yourself every now and again. How you may ask? Well, you can go to the edge of a lake or a beach, take out your fishing rod and enjoy some light fishing, where you get to simulate pulling in the reed and reeling in that fish. There isn’t much to it, but it’s a relaxing activity to do for a few minutes and gets even more enjoyable when you’ve got some friends around to enjoy the whole thing with.

Not only that, but you can pop into your own personal house and make up some brand new potions, which you can proceed to age as you please, if you so desire. The more age on the potion, the more it will sell for if you’re into that element of gameplay. On top of all of this, you’ve also got your own baby dragon to feed treats and watch grow up; there may not be much to do with the baby dragon so far, but the developers do seem to have plans to make them more and more interesting as the lifespan of the game goes on.

Aberrations

By the end of every single dungeon there’s going to be something named an Aberrations, a force of chaos that most assuredly should not be messed with. They are the game’s version of a boss and they are not easy bosses to deal with. Thankfully, however, if you manage to take these nasty creatures of chaos down, you might just be able to reap all of their rewards the very second that they are slain.

The Wilds

In OrbusVR, the Wilds are considered the most dangerous place in the entire game, but at the same time is the most valuable area you’ll ever come across. Supposedly, there are valuable resources galore around almost every single corner that any high-class artisan would be willing to pay a very high price for. When you’re in the Wilds, however, not everything is quite as simple as you might wish it to be, since any monster you come across could quite easily walk away with your head.

You’re not safe until you leave the Wilds with your resources in your inventory and no earlier. Oh, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for other players, because in this lawless location, every corner you turn could quite possibly be your last.

Alpha Test

OrbusVR may only be in its alpha period, but it’s a pretty damn solid game that anyone with access to VR should try out, at least once. As far as MMORPG’s go, OrbusVR has done a good job of being a great new up and comer for the genre and that’s only going to be improved tenfold as time goes on from now.
