Introduction

The Void is the next big VR arcade, currently under-development by CEO Ken Bretschneider, Curtis Hickman, a visual effects artist, and James M. Jensen, an entrepreneur and interactive media designer; all of whom are currently working out of Utah. Originally, The Void was announced back in 2015 and didn’t debut until the following year, along with a temporary Ghostbusters theme.

Where is The Void Located?

In its 2016 debut, The Void was set up in New York City as part of a movie promotion for the remake of the Ghostbusters. Inside the game, you do what any good Ghostbuster would do and that’s bust some ghosts before they get slime all over you and your friends. After the event, the developers went on record to say that The Void will be housed in Utah for the foreseeable future, but they are hopeful to extend their market reach over the coming years; possibly even worldwide if given the chance.

How Does The Void Work?

The Void typically works like any other VR system, where you place the VR headset upon your head and get transported into the world of whichever video game you’ve selected and go from there. To change things up a little, however, the designers of The Void have designed the system so it’s based on a room-by-room basis. When you walk through a room, it’s as if you’ll be actually walking through the room at the present time, but thanks to a few tricks here and there, it does mean the player won’t be accidentally walking into a wall every other minute. That tactile feel you get when you move around the world isn’t something that’s easily replicated in traditional VR, so as a result, that’s simply something the traditional VR experience you can’t replicate.

Everything is Better with Friends

The creators of The Void have quite publicly stated that The Void is meant to be enjoyed with a friend or two. While the games available do not require a second player, a majority of them do get considerably better when you bring along a friend to help you. After all, the VR arcade is designed around the player getting the ultimate experience, feeling, and sensation with any game they pick up and play; yet it only increases tenfold when you bring a friend along with you.

Games on Offer

As of right now, there are only 2 different games in total: one of which is the actions-shooter that is known as the Ghostbusters game and an exploration, adventure that’s set in a jungle temple that currently does not have a name. Sadly, these are the only 2 games on offer at the moment, even after 2 years of development, but the creators have the full intentions of bringing even more games to the platform over time.

Open to the Public

To kick things off The Void wasn’t open to the public just yet in its headquarters in Utah, but over the last few months it has been open to groups of small ticketholders to go and have fun with some friends. The reason it’s opened specifically to smaller select groups is due to the currently small amount of games on offer to everybody who goes there. However, when more games are set to be implemented into The Void, they’ll be welcoming bigger crowds of individuals to get the ultimate VR experience.

What You’ll be Wearing

Unfortunately, when it comes to VR you’ve got to wear something to be transported into that virtual realm and the way the creators have done it this time around is through a set of goggles and a back-mounted computer that works like a backpack. With the gear in tow the player can experience everything that The Void has to offer with its individual arenas that come with each game. Every step you take in that arena will bring the player that much closer to the ultimate VR experience; even the very floor you’ll be standing on can mimic the feeling of movement through vibrations on the floor. Experiencing that sensation in the game is one thing, but the sensation of the floor moving beneath your feet is something you won’t be getting from anything other than The Void arcade.

The Void VR arcade may be only located in one current location for the time being, but that hasn’t stopped the hype for this arcade getting bigger and better with every single passing day. While the lack of games is a bit of a downside, the physical and visual sensation that the VR systems that come along with it is what makes The Void so incredible.

Over the years, it would come as no surprise to anyone that The Void starts popping up all around the country and potentially the world. Regardless of the games that are on offer, the overall experience is one that’s only going to be improved more and more with every brand new game that makes its way to the arcade.
