Intro

Released in April 2016 by Pimax Technology, the Pimax 4K is claimed to be the first ever 4K Resolution VR headset. Priced at USD375 and available from GearBest, this award winning UltraHD VR headset has grabbed the attention of SteamVR and Oculus VR gamers alike.

Features

  • Pushing boundary in the HD VR technology, Pimax 4K boasts a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, significantly higher than competitors Oculus Rift’s and Vive’s 2160 x 1200. This means clearer and sharper picture when you’re playing games like WarThunder or DirtRally
  • The Pimax 4K features a dual 53mm lense that provides an 110 Degree FOV, putting it on par with established VR Headset on the market.
  • Pimax 4K Adopts 1000 Hz dual gyroscope which reduces dizziness for the users, although user experience may vary relatively.
  • With the wellness of user’s eyesight in mind, Pimax 4K is built with a three-pronged features of anti-bluray, auto mist removal and auto light adjusting.
  • Built to be compatible with SteamVR and Occulus games, you just have to setup your Pimax 4K and start playing VR games from these platforms.

Hardware

Design & Comfort

Sleek looking and elegantly designed in black, the Pimax 4K is built with ABS with medical grade sponge covering the edge of the headset, providing a comfort wear for the users. A glaring flaw would be the nose section, where it’s not covered in any protective sponge, making it uncomfortable for users wearing it for long durations.

Visual & Optics

While it’s not 3840 x 2160 in its truest sense, having a 1920 x 1080 resolution with 90Hz refresh rate on each eye still puts it far ahead amongst VR headsets competitors. Its auto myopic adjustment features enable some users to wear the headset with or without glasses.

Sensors

The Pimax 4K has an array of built-in sensors (1000Hz gyroscope, acceleration sensor, magnetometer, range sensor, light sensor). However, the Pimax 4K doesn’t support positional tracking, nor does it support controllers or pointers at the moment, putting it at a slight disadvantage among its competitors in this aspect. A feature upgrade in the future Pimax 8K would be much welcomed for the community.

Audio

The Pimax 4K comes with removable audio headphones, where you can easily detach from the side strap should you opt to use your own higher quality headphones.
