Description

Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game developed by Valve for SteamVR. The game continues the story line of the Half-Life franchise. The plot takes place between Half-Life and Half Life 2 where the character you play, Alyx Vance, is up against aliens called Combine that have overtaken the planet since the Black Mesa incident (an event that triggered the teleportation of aliens to Earth). Alyx, along with her father, the scientist Dr. Eli Vance, have founded a resistance movement who studies and defies the Combine every chance they get.[1]

Valve built this game for VR on top of their Source 2 engine. You can mod the game through Steamworks with a set of Source 2 tools. [1][2]

The game was built for Valve Index and was originally intended to be released at the same time; instead, the game's narrative was rewritten 6 months before the initial release date and delayed until March 2020.[3] If you have a Valve Index, you can play Half-Life: Alyx for free; otherwise it costs $60 through Steam for other PC-compatible HMDs.

You can purchase additional content including the soundtrack and a documentary called "Half-Life: Alyx - Final Hours" behind the franchise from Steam, each for $9.99. The soundtrack can also be streamed from Apple Music or Spotify. The composer Mike Morasky has also created soundtracks for Portal 2 and Team Fortress 2, other Valve-developed games.[1][4]
