360cam is a 360° Camera developed by Giroptic. The egg-shaped device is able to shoot full HD video at 30 frames per second and produce still images with 8 MP resolution. The camera is equipped with WiFi for direct video streaming and remote control together with GPS and gyroscope for precise positioning and stabilization. The universal camera mount gives wide possibilities for attaching the camera to tripods and various other accessories. It even comes with light bulb mount adapter that lets owners use this device as a surveillance and monitoring camera. This project started on Kickstarter where it received $1,419,068 with the goal being just $150,000.

Hardware

360cam has a slightly unusual egg-shaped form factor and is intended to be held in hand on mounted on tripod/monopod using the universal camera mount. IPX8 waterproof certifications ensure that it can be used in up to 10 meters deep water. The heart of this camera is three, 185º fish-eye lenses that are being synchronized to produce final stitched images in real time. These images are stored either on the built-in microSD card or streamed via Wi-Fi.

Software

360cam by Giroptic uses regular file formats and does not require any proprietary tools for editing or image and video viewing. Users can use many freely available solutions to edit captured videos and display final images.

For the best experience, Giroptic recommends the use of their proprietary players on mobile devices and personal computers. Android and iOS users can download the official application from Play Store and App Store, respectively. The application allows for remote control, viewing, and sharing of videos and pictures.
